Key facts

How Boutique Whitening works
We take a digital scan or impression of your teeth and have trays made to fit them precisely. A close fit matters: it keeps the gel on the tooth surface and off the gums, which is the main reason professional whitening is both more effective and more comfortable than a one-size-fits-all kit.
You then wear the trays at home with the gel we supply - Boutique By Night is worn while you sleep, Boutique By Day for shorter periods during waking hours. Most patients complete the course in around two weeks, and we review the result with you afterwards.
What whitening can and cannot change
Whitening lightens natural tooth structure. It does not change the colour of crowns, veneers, bridges or white fillings, so if you have visible restorations at the front of your mouth, the sequence matters - whiten first, then match any replacement work to your new shade.
Teeth darkened by a single trauma, or by staining deep within the tooth, may respond differently to the rest. We will tell you honestly at your consultation what result is realistic before you spend anything.
Sensitivity and keeping your result
Some patients notice short-lived sensitivity during a whitening course. It usually settles within a day or two of finishing, and can be managed by adjusting wear time or using a desensitising toothpaste alongside treatment.
Your trays stay yours. Shade slowly relapses over the years with tea, coffee, red wine and smoking, so most patients keep their trays and buy a top-up syringe of gel occasionally rather than repeating the whole course.
Common questions
Boutique Whitening: your questions answered
How long do the results last?
Usually a few years, depending on your diet and habits. Tea, coffee, red wine and smoking all bring the shade back down over time. Because you keep your custom trays, a short top-up with a fresh syringe of gel restores the result at modest cost.
Will it make my teeth sensitive?
Some sensitivity during the course is common and normally short-lived, settling within a day or two of finishing. If it becomes uncomfortable we adjust the wear time or add a desensitising product - tell us rather than pushing through.
Why not just use an over-the-counter whitening kit?
Shop-bought kits use generic trays and much weaker gel, so results are limited and gel leaking onto the gums is common. Professional whitening is legally the dentist's remit for good reason: we check your teeth and gums are healthy first, make trays that fit only your teeth, and supervise the result.
How does Boutique compare to Enlighten?
Both are dentist-supervised systems using custom trays. Enlighten adds a final in-practice appointment and carries a shade guarantee, which is why it costs more. Boutique is a straightforward home course with day or night options. We will recommend whichever fits the result you want at your free consultation.
