Dental Implants in Wolverhampton

A replacement root, backed by decades of evidence

In short

A dental implant is a titanium screw placed into the jawbone to act as an artificial tooth root, later restored with a crown, bridge or denture. It can replace a single missing tooth without touching its neighbours, or support a bridge or denture where several teeth are missing. Implant consultation and assessment at Wolverhampton Dental is £100; implants start from £1,700 with implant crowns from £1,350.

Why the implant approach matters

Dental implants are one of the most researched and predictable ways to replace missing teeth, with long-term clinical data behind them. That matters over a twenty-year horizon: well-supported implant components remain available, and any dentist anywhere can identify and service the system if you move.

Cheaper unbranded implants may be discontinued, leaving future repairs difficult or impossible.

The treatment pathway

Assessment comes first: clinical examination, radiographs including an OPG where indicated, and evaluation of bone volume, gum health and your medical history. Smoking and uncontrolled gum disease both materially affect success rates, and we will be direct about that.

The implant is then placed under local anaesthetic and left to integrate with the bone, usually over three to six months. Once integration is confirmed, the crown, bridge or denture is fitted.

Implant or bridge?

A conventional bridge spans the gap by crowning the teeth on each side, which means preparing two healthy teeth. If those teeth are already heavily filled or crowned, that may be sensible. If they are sound, cutting them down to replace a different tooth is a real cost.

An implant is self-supporting. It also preserves the bone in the gap, which gradually resorbs when a tooth is lost and nothing replaces the root.

Replacing a single tooth

A single tooth implant replaces one missing tooth with a titanium root and a crown, without cutting down the teeth either side as a bridge would. After assessment and radiographs, the implant is placed under local anaesthetic through a small opening in the gum.

Once healed and integrated, an impression or scan is taken and a custom crown is made to match the shade and shape of your other teeth.

Maintenance

Implants do not decay, but the gum and bone around them can become inflamed and recede - peri-implantitis behaves much like gum disease and is the main cause of late implant failure. Regular hygiene appointments and meticulous cleaning around the implant are not optional.

Common questions

Dental Implants: your questions answered

How much do dental implants cost in Wolverhampton?

At Wolverhampton Dental, implant consultation and assessment is £100. Implants start from £1,700 and implant crowns from £1,350. Implants are excluded from the 10% plan member discount.

How long does the whole implant process take?

Usually between three and six months from placement to final crown, allowing time for the implant to integrate with the bone. Cases requiring bone grafting take longer.

Is implant surgery painful?

Placement is carried out under local anaesthetic, so you should feel pressure but not pain. Some soreness and swelling for a few days afterwards is normal and manageable with ordinary pain relief.

How long do dental implants last?

With good oral hygiene and regular maintenance, implants can last decades. The crown on top may need replacing sooner than the implant itself.

Will the implant crown match my other teeth?

Yes - the crown is made individually and shade-matched to the adjacent teeth. If you plan to whiten, do so before the crown is made, as porcelain does not lighten.

What if there is not enough bone?

Bone grafting may be recommended to build up the site before or during implant placement. This is assessed from your radiographs and discussed at your assessment appointment.
